The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has today published its figures for construction output in the first quarter of 2012. Construction output has been revised downwards to -4.8%, causing a further fall of 0.1% in overall GDP.

Figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) today (Wednesday 28 March 2012) show that Britain's economy was even weaker than expected at the end of last year, underlining the country's struggle to avoid another recession. GDP fell 0.3% in the fourth quarter of 2011, more than the 0.2% drop previously estimated by the ONS. The breakdown of the GDP data also showed that the overall drop included a fall in construction output as well as a dip in service sector output.
